Volumetric Weight vs. Actual Weight
The scale measures mass. Volumetric weight estimates how much transport capacity the package occupies.
Three related values

| Actual weight | The packed shipment on a scale |
| Volumetric weight | Volume converted to a weight using a divisor |
| Billable weight | The applicable value used for rating, often the greater one |
Why the divisor matters
A smaller divisor produces a higher volumetric weight for the same package. Divisors and rounding rules vary by carrier, service, lane, unit system, and contract.
